Staff Reading Group – Pure by Andrew Miller

All staff are welcome to join in reading our choice over the Easter Holiday

Fabulous review by Adele Geras on the History Girls' Blog. Read it AFTER you have read the book yourself!

“..a year of bones, of grave-dirt, relentless work. Of mummified corpses and chanting priests. A year of rape, suicide, sudden death. Of friendship too. Of desire. Of love…A year unlike any other he has lived.”

Follow the story of the young engineer, Jean-Baptiste Baratte and we promise you will not fail to be absorbed in his gruesome task of clearing the Cemetery of the innocents.

We will let you know when the meeting will be, after the Easter break.

If you have read it or finish it over the holidays, why not leave us a comment?

  1. Wow! Not sure I would have picked this up – didn’t find the cover attractive, although was pulled in by the blurb. Sat out in the sunshine last weekend – haven’t been able to put it down since! Totally absorbing. I am reading every word (and because I am reading it on my ipad, i can check out vocab – Miller has obviously researched meticulously) The characters are so blemished, you cannot help being intrigued to know more. Might need something a little lighter (and more fragrant) next!
