Everything ran like clockwork on Friday, 22nd March when Chris Higgins came into school to promote her new book, The day I met Suzie.
Having already been to Scotland, the North of England and Hengrove School in Bristol, we were the last school visited by Chris. 80 students were lucky enough to get tickets and listened to the author talking about how she writes and reading from her psychological thrillers, He’s after me and The day I met Suzie. This got everyone sitting up and a good half hour’s Q & A session followed with questions ranging from “Which character in your books is most like you?” to “How much do you earn from writing books?” About half of the audience then bought one of Chris’s books and had it signed by her.
The Library Ladiez anticipate alot of interest in her titles stocked in the Library next term. Come in and reserve your favourite!
28 students from Year 7 – 10 arrived for our first Carnegie Shadowing meeting of the year. Some have been coming for years, many are new faces. Everyone eager to see what has been chosen for us to read and to borrow their first title for the Easter Holidays.
The list includes a wide range of fiction titles, all published in the past year. Some face modern issues and situations, others take inspiration from classic folklore or 20th century history. One is written in poetry and another is fully illustrated. All will keep us busy and give us food for thought ready for our debates next term, when we can begin to also get to know one another better.
We have all of Chris Higgins’ books for young teens in our library and they are very popular. Recently we acquired He’s after me, which is darker and more suitable for older readers. (Mrs Gibson was up most of last night finishing it!)
We are excited to have been asked to host an event with Chris, for our students. She will be coming to talk to us in the library, on the last day of term, 22nd March at 2pm. She will tell us about her writing, her books and in particular, The Day I met Suzie, her latest title.
Students from Years 7 – 9 are invited and can come into the library to obtain a ticket (first come, first served)
