The annual Reading Challenge for Year 7 this year will be to take part in a national competition called Read for My School, which is open to all children, Years 3–8 in England from January – April 2016.
The competition website www.readformyschool.co.uk is hosting a free online library of over 100 books by top children’s authors. Students will be able to read those books online wherever they have internet access (the website is fully compatible with most major tablets). Students can of course also choose to read books in print, either from home or the school library – the goal is simply to read as much as possible this term.
Whilst there are prizes and awards on offer for the schools where pupils read the most, and individual awards for children nominated as Reading Legends, the Library Ladiez will be checking to see which Tutor Group devours the most books before the end of Term 4 and will be looking out for the best and most-improved readers in each group. We are hoping parents and carers will be encouraging and supporting their childen as they try to read a little more, whatever form it may take. If they do participate in Read for My School fully then they will reap benefits for themselves as well as for our school.
Students have been assigned a classroom code, username, and password in their Library Lesson this week (details will be in their planners) and told to SIGN UP for homework. After that they can login from anywhere. This powerpoint explains it all:
Good Luck with the Challenge Y7!
