Scholastic Book Fair Feb 29 – March 3

Click here for the Teen Fest 2016 site The Scholastic Book Fair is in school next week: 29th February until 4th  March to coincide with World Book Day on Thursday 3rd March.

Flyers have gone home with all Y7-9 students to offer a taste of what will be in store. You can see it here: 2016 flyer home

Students will visit with their English teacher during a lesson and receive their World Book Day £1 Voucher at the same time. Of course we would like them to spend the voucher with us, but students are welcome to take them away to use in a bookstore of their choice. The Fair will also be open every lunchtime for students to visit as they wish.

Our Book Fairs are always extremely successful and the school takes 60% in commission which is spent on books for the Library, reading materials for Education Support and group readers for the English Department.

Your support is very much appreciated.

Read for my school: Scores on the doors

We are up and running with most students registered now. (Just have to sort out 7M1 who missed a lesson due to Inset) And  the Library ladiez are thrilled to see 858 books have been read since Christmas

The scores to date are:

Feb 19 total for blog

The figures in brackets beside the Tutor Groups are the numbers of students who have logged books they have read. So we need to start reminding students to update their lists as well as reading!

Look to our foyer display for ideas:

Harry Potter acrostic poem competition

To celebrate Harry Potter night which fell last week and to anticipate the Scholastic Book Fair coming in to school next term, we are running a competition for Y7 with two £5 book vouchers for prizes.

We are looking for acrostic poems using a character or spell name from Harry Potter. An example is on the slide below:

If the weather is inclement during 1/2 term this would be a nice activity to do sitting by the fire with a cup of hot chocolate – hint, hint parents!

Shortlisted poems will be displayed on the school plasma screens and winners chosen in time to spend the vouchers at the Book Fair.
