A Doodletastic Author Event with Liz Pichon!

After a fantastic Library Skills fortnight with Year 7, the Library Ladiez treated them to an author event featuring Liz Pichon and, her now famous character, Tom Gates.

Liz gave us an insight into Tom’s world and how to write in the doodle style that has become very popular recently. Students helped create our very own Backwell Monster:

And they were encouraged to follow her in a quick Doodle-workshop, but struggled to keep up!

After some interesting questions and answers, nearly 100 students queued to buy a book and have it signed by the author.

The Library Ladiez began to wonder if they could get all the books signed before the buses left for home at 3.30pm!

But everyone got what they want, and we finished what had been an exhilarating     1 1/2 hours,  with smiling faces all round!

And this was all after six lucky Yr 7 students shared a picnic lunch with Liz in the Library. They won a competition where they had to say why they would like to meet a real author. Here are two of the entries:

Polly said, “I’m a poetess, I always try my best. I would like to lunch with Liz, to see what her career is!”

Ben said, “Better than the rest, Liz Pichon Best of Best. I wish I could have lunch with you, Liz Pichon, You!!!”

Most winners are aspiring writers themselves and so shared sandwiches and real-life stories with Liz – which might well appear in future Tom Gates books.  Watch this space…….!

The Literary Lunch!

Oh, and we admired Liz’s Doodle-manicure!!

Many thanks to the lovely Liz Pichon and Catherine Alport from her publishers, Scholastic, who helped arrange the event.
