2022 – 2023 Wrapped

And with that another academic year comes to a close. It’s hard to believe that it is once again July and we have already said good bye to Year 11 and Year 13 as they embark on their future education and careers.

With that being said, the end of the year gives me a chance to see what books our students have been taking out this year.

Year 7 have invested heavily in murder mysteries, whilst fantasy seems to have float the boat of Year 8.

Year 9 have returned to the beautiful writing of Jenny Han, perhaps eagerly awaiting the second season of ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ which releases next month.

Year 10 have a three-book-tie with LGBTQ+ Romance ‘Red, White and Royal Blue’ proving to be a favourite across all years. TikTok or BookTok should I say? has massively influenced this reading list and strangely so has Karl Marx with the communist manifesto finding its way into our top books of the academic year. Perhaps our students are preparing for a revolution, only time will tell.

Finally, Year 11 have escaped with ‘The Starless Sea’ and KS5 have proven to be history and music buffs with their top books.

However, our most borrowed book of 22-23 is not in this list, our most borrowed book is…

We still aren’t over the Heartstopper craze, with volume 4 being our most borrowed book this year. Like many of you, I can’t wait for Season 2 of Heartstopper to be released next month and for the return of our favourite couple Nick and Charlie. Alice Oseman’s writing and illustrations have truly inspired our students.

I wonder what next year will bring…who will be our book pics for 23-24? What new releases will storm the library? Only time can tell.

For now, this is us here at Backwell School Library wishing everybody a fun and relaxing Summer.

See you in September.
